Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered departmental action against two senior officials of Dhaka North and South City Corporations for negligence of duty after sacrificial animal waste and accumulated garbage were left rotting on key roads in the capital.
The Prime Minister directed that the two regional executive officers be immediately attached to the Ministry of Public Administration and temporarily relieved of their duties, State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam confirmed on Friday afternoon.
Waste was found piled up on Hatirpool, Elephant Road, Green Road, Farmgate, and Karwan Bazar areas following Eid-ul-Adha, causing public suffering and raising concerns about the city corporations’ waste management capacity.
The officials relieved are Md Sadekur Rahman (Joint Secretary), Regional Executive Officer of Dhaka North City Corporation (Zone-5), and Kazi Saleh Mustanjir (Joint Secretary), Regional Executive Officer of Dhaka South City Corporation (Zone-1).
Both have been attached to the public administration ministry pending further proceedings.
The move signals the government’s zero-tolerance approach to negligence in public service, particularly regarding sanitation and waste management in the capital during major religious festivals. Further departmental action is expected.
