A Dhaka court on Monday directed Banani Police Station to investigate a General Diary (GD) filed by lawyer and prominent model Jannatul Ferdous Peya, popularly known as Peya Jannatul, seeking security.
Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin issued the order following a hearing regarding the permission to investigate the GD.
Sub-Inspector Mostafa Kamal of the Prosecution Department confirmed the development. He said, “The hearing regarding the permission to investigate the GD was scheduled for today. Peya Jannatul was present in court. The court has ordered Banani Police Station to investigate the matter.”
Peya Jannatul originally filed the GD on 8 July. In the document, she clarified that she has no past or present involvement, either direct or indirect, with any political party, nor does she harbour any political motives.
She alleged that since taking a humanitarian and legal stance in support of another woman’s safety and justice, she has been receiving numerous threats, offensive messages on social media, and threatening phone calls from unidentified individuals.
Moreover, she said for approximately three months, she has observed unknown persons following her to various locations.
Expressing extreme anxiety and alarm regarding the safety of herself and her family, Peya said she fears their security could be compromised at any time. She has sought necessary legal measures and police protection to ensure their safety.
