Birmingham’s Symphony Hall was alight with excitement for the world premiere of ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’, celebrating the city that inspired the hit series.
Creator Steven Knight and star Cillian Murphy, reprising his role as Tommy Shelby, took centre stage to warm applause.
The evening was marked by standing ovations both at the start and as the credits rolled. Murphy paid tribute to fans for transforming the BBC Two drama into a global phenomenon. “I feel immense gratitude to the fans… it gradually became this worldwide hit thanks to them,” he said.
Knight praised Murphy as “an actor at the top of his game,” while Murphy lauded Knight as “a once-in-a-lifetime writer.” Director Tom Harper credited the fans as “the engine that has driven us to this point,” and Netflix executive Anne Mensah called the film “epic and totally unforgettable,” noting the series’ cultural impact since 2013.
Set during World War Two, the film follows Tommy Shelby’s return to Birmingham.
The Immortal Man will screen in selected cinemas from Friday for two weeks before streaming on Netflix from March 20.
