Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has warned that Bangladesh could face “national misery” if the upcoming election resembles the controversial polls of 2014, 2018, or 2024.
Parwar made the statement while addressing a rally organised by Harintana Thana Jamaat-e-Islami at Khulna Zero Point on Saturday.
“If the same kind of election happens again, those responsible will not escape like dictators who fled to India,” he warned.
He alleged that large sums of black money were being used to block Jamaat-e-Islami candidates and influence party nominations.
Parwar claimed that one candidate had purchased a party nomination for Tk100crore and intended to recoup Tk1,000crore after winning.
The Jamaat leader urged candidates to donate to mosques and madrasas rather than buying votes, emphasising that a credible election required strict neutrality from the administration.
The event, chaired by Harintana Thana Jamaat-e-Islami president Muhammad Abdul Gafur, concluded with a motorcade procession from the Zero Point area.
