BNP Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan has said that political parties in Bangladesh must uphold mutual trust and respect each other’s differences.
He made this remark at a discussion titled “Democratic Restructuring” organised by the “Center for Governance Studies” at CIRDAP in the capital on Thursday.
He said, “When a leader imposes authority, democracy is harmed. Unity in diversity must be implemented.”
Moyeen Khan further stated, “It is a mistake to think that all political parties will unanimously agree on reforms. We do not believe in forcing everyone into consensus through democratic processes. We must break free from traditional methods. If politics is conducted with conventional ideas and closed-mindedness, another August 5 could occur.”
Regarding elections, he said, “All political parties agree on fair elections. Whoever the voters choose will win. There is no dispute over this.”
He emphasised the need to increase the use of technology for strategic security, ensuring safety in energy, food, media, and social media. He also remarked that the security of ordinary people must be prioritised over state security.
Additionally, he expressed concern about the “Indemnity Law” applied in Bangladesh’s energy sector, adding that he hopes that the current energy adviser will take appropriate steps regarding the matter.
