Acclaimed musician and actor Partha Barua has returned with a new solo track, ‘Mukhosh’, marking his first solo album release after decades with the band Souls.

The album, originally announced six years ago, previously saw the release of two songs, ‘Shohor O Meghdol’ and ‘Brishtir Gaan’, but the remaining tracks had not emerged until now.

The title track, Mukhosh, written by lyricist Rana, was arranged by Barua himself and produced by Avik. The song is now available on Barua’s official YouTube channel.

Speaking about the track, Barua said it explores the contrast between the inner and outer selves, highlighting how people “wear masks” in daily life.

He added that the album departs from the typical band-style music he performs with Souls and that commercial considerations were deliberately set aside in its creation.

“This is my first original solo album,” Barua explained. “Over nearly four decades in music, I’ve never wanted to overshadow my identity as a band artist. My focus has always been on growing as a member of Souls. Still, these five songs felt right to release as a solo project.”

Barua’s bandmates have supported the solo venture, endorsing the release of the album under his own name. All five songs on Mukhosh are penned by Rana, with Barua responsible for the music and arrangements.

Meanwhile, Souls continues its golden jubilee celebrations, which began in 2023. The concert series has featured reimagined versions of classic hits alongside new material. The band had initially planned to release 50 songs to mark the milestone.

Nationwide events, however, including the anti-discrimination quota movement and widespread political uprisings in 2024, prompted a pause in celebrations.

The second phase of the jubilee began in May last year with ‘Mastercard Presents Souls Unplugged: Fifty Years of Timeless Music’, featuring both current and former band members, including Naqib Khan and Pilu Khan.
