A moderate cold wave continues to sweep across the northern districts of the country, keeping the winter chill intact in Panchagarh.
The Tetulia Weather Observatory Centre in Panchagarh recorded the lowest temperature in the country at 7.5 degrees Celsius at 9am on Tuesday.
The nation’s lowest temperature has been recorded at the district for the fifth consecutive day. However, the humidity was 91 percent, and wind speed ranged between 8 and 10 km/h.
On Monday, the minimum temperature in Tetulia was 8.4 degrees Celsius, with humidity at 92 percent and a daytime maximum of 28 degrees Celsius.
On Sunday, it dropped to 7.3 degrees Celsius, while Saturday saw 8.3 degrees Celsius. The coldest day of the current winter season was Friday, when the mercury fell to 6.8 degrees Celsius.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, a mild cold wave is currently affecting Panchagarh, Kurigram, and Nilphamari and may continue in the coming days.
Light to moderate fog is expected in some areas, while night temperatures may drop slightly nationwide, with daytime temperatures remaining mostly unchanged.
Residents were seen avoiding outdoor activities except for urgent needs, as the morning cold remains biting. Although sunlight emerges later in the day, it provides little warmth. Hospitals report a rise in cold-related ailments, particularly among children and the elderly.
Jitendranath Roy, in-charge officer of the Tetulia Weather Observatory Centre, said temperatures have been fluctuating over the past few days. He also said, “Today, Panchagarh again recorded the country’s lowest temperature. This weather may persist for the next few days.”
