An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Pallabi Police Station and his accomplice have been arrested with a total of 5,310 pieces of Yaba tablets in the capital’s Dakshinkhan area.
The arrested individuals have been identified as ASI Shafiqul Islam, who was employed at Pallabi Police Station, and Wasim.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), police conducted a raid in the Azampur Kachabazar area based on a tip off regarding drug sales. Sensing police presence, Wasim attempted to flee but was detained and searched, leading to the recovery of 50 pieces of Yaba pills from his possession.
Following information provided by Wasim, police conducted a drive at a rented house, where they arrested ASI Shafiqul Islam with 200 pieces of Yaba.
Later, acting on information extracted from both of them, police raided a flat in Noor Building (No 67) at Bismillah Palli in the Azampur Kachabazar area, recovering another 5,060 pieces of Yaba.
In total, 5,310 pieces of Yaba tablets were seized from their possession, with an estimated market value of approximately Tk16 lakh.
An officer of Pallabi Police Station, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the arrested Shafiqul Islam was indeed serving at their station. A case was filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act at Dakshinkhan Police Station on Monday.
During primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted to bringing Yaba from different regions of the country and selling the contraband in Dakshinkhan and surrounding areas. The two were subsequently sent to court, where the judge ordered them to be sent to jail.
