Netflix has officially renewed The Gentlemen for a third season, with Variety confirming that Guy Ritchie’s high-octane crime drama will return for an eight-episode run.
The series, starring Theo James and Kaya Scodelario, is currently in pre-production, with filming expected to begin imminently.
However, scripts for the new season have not yet been finalised, and no new casting decisions have been confirmed.
This also means that recent speculation about Meghan Markle potentially joining the series remains unconfirmed.
Reports of her involvement have circulated online, but there is currently no official casting announcement.
Ritchie, who created the series, will return to direct Season 3. He will also co-write the upcoming season with Matthew Read.
“The ambition of ‘The Gentlemen’ has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight,” Ritchie said. “A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”
The Season 3 announcement comes as Netflix continues to renew several of its major UK productions, including Black Mirror for Season 8, Legends for Season 2 and Being Gordon Ramsay for Season 2.
Other popular Netflix UK dramas returning for second seasons include Supacell, Black Doves and House of Guinness.
Meanwhile, fans will not have to wait long for the next chapter of The Gentlemen. Netflix has released the first full-length trailer for Season 2, which is set to premiere on 3 September.
Season 2 follows Eddie Horniman (James) and Susie Glass (Scodelario) as they expand their criminal enterprise internationally.
Their business takes them to the lakeside villas of Italy, where one member of their crew soon discovers that he may have taken on more than he can handle.
Eddie’s growing influence in the criminal underworld also begins to mirror his increasing status within the British establishment.
His ambitions bring him into the orbit of a new aristocrat, played by Hugh Bonneville.
In the trailer, Eddie makes his intentions clear while speaking to Geoff at his stately estate: “Four hundred years ago, this estate spread out as far as the eye could see. I want it all back.”
His confidence grows further after American billionaire Stanley Johnston, played by Giancarlo Esposito, tells him that he is destined to rule and encourages him to forge his own path.
But as Eddie becomes increasingly comfortable playing dangerous games with powerful crime lords, the consequences of his ambitions remain uncertain.
Season 2 will also see the return of Ray Winstone as Bobby Glass, Susie’s crime-boss father, and Harry Goodwins as her physically imposing brother Jack.
On Eddie’s side of the family, Joely Richardson returns as his mother, Lady Sabrina, alongside Daniel Ings as his disinherited older brother Freddy, Jasmine Blackborow as his sister Charly and Vinnie Jones as Geoff, the estate’s groundskeeper and keeper of the family’s secrets.
Esposito, Michael Vu, Ruby Sear and Pearce Quigley are also returning.
New additions to the Season 2 cast include Benjamin Clementine (Dune), Benedetta Porcaroli (The Leopard), Amra Mallassi (Dune: Part Two), Tyler Conti (Tell Me Everything), professional boxer Chris Eubank Jr and Love Island U.K. host Maya Jama.
The Gentlemen is produced by Moonage Pictures for Netflix and Miramax TV.
