Munshiganj’s Padmahem Dham is set to transform into a haven of mystic melody and reflection on October 31, as devotees, artists and seekers gather for ‘Sadhusanga’, a commemorative celebration marking 135 years since the passing of Fakir Lalon Shah, the philosopher-poet whose songs continue to shape Bengal’s spiritual imagination.
Unlike a formal anniversary, this year’s event aims to evoke the living essence of Lalon’s philosophy: love, equality and oneness beyond caste or creed.
The evening will flow as an open-hearted musical dialogue between generations of Baul singers, echoing the eternal call of ‘Moner Manush’ (the person within).
The celebration begins at 3:00 pm tomorrow with an agomoni gaan (welcoming song), followed by the main session, ‘Dhonno Prohorer Gaan’ (Songs of the Blessed Hour), starting at 8:00 pm.
The lineup features both veteran and emerging Baul voices: Pagla Bablu, Razzak Baul, Samir Baul, Arif Baul, Suchona Shelly, Dolly Mondol and Eliza Putul, accompanied by Saidul on harmonium, Bhuttu Baul on dotara, Suman Baul on tabla and Arif on flute.
Actor-director Afzal Hossain will inaugurate the gathering, while Superintendent of Police (Tourist Police) Nihad Adnan Taian will serve as chief guest and keynote speaker.
“This isn’t just an event; it’s a space for inner awakening,” said Kabir Hossain, founder of Padmahem Dham. “Through song and silence, we reconnect with Lalon’s timeless vision of compassion and unity.”
Over the years, Padmahem Dham’s annual Sadhusanga has grown into a spiritual tradition in Sirajdikhan, drawing devotees and artists from across the country.
