The Bangladesh Road Transport Owners-Workers Coordination Council has refuted reports alleging that bus operators are charging extra fares during Eid travel, calling the claims “false and misleading.”

The council assured passengers that buses will operate without additional fares, donations, or surcharges.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, council leaders emphasised their commitment to ensuring safe and smooth travel for commuters during the holiday period.

Present at the briefing were MA Baten, executive president of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association; Secretary General Md Saiful Alam; GR Shahid, President of the Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners Association; General Secretary H Hanif; and Abdur Rahim Box Dudhu, president of the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, along with Secretary General Humayun Kabir Khan.

The council said a group identifying itself as the ‘Jatri Kalyan Samity’ had circulated allegations of excessive fares, specifically highlighting claims made by Mozammel Haque. Council officials dismissed the allegations as entirely fabricated and intentional attempts to spread confusion.

Leaders added that the individual has previously made unfounded statements to portray himself as influential and called on authorities to take measures to prevent such misinformation.

The council further warned that unless concrete evidence supporting the claims is presented within 48 hours, legal and organizational action will be initiated.

In closing, the organisation extended Eid greetings to the nation and urged the public not to be swayed by baseless rumors.
