Of the 297 winners in the 13th parliamentary election, 268 have submitted income tax information, making up 90.24 percent of the total.
Among the winning candidates, 24 submitted only certificates but did not provide income tax statements, which accounts for 8.08 percent of the total winners.
Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan), a civil society platform for good governance, shared this data during a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club on Thursday.
Of the candidates who submitted income tax information, 14.18 percent or 36 candidates pay less than Tk5,000 annually, 136 candidates or 50.75 percent pay over Tk1 lakh, and 61 candidates or 20.53 percent pay more than Tk10 lakh annually.
Shujan noted that the number of tax-paying winners in this election is higher compared to the 12th parliamentary election. In the previous election, the percentage of tax payers among winning candidates stood at 76.92 percent.
Shujan further said that compared to the winners of the 12th parliamentary election, a greater number of winners in this election have submitted income tax information. In the 12th national election, 76.92 percent of the winning candidates were income taxpayers.
