Pune city police rescued 11 Bangladeshi women from different brothels in the Budhwar Peth red-light area on Thursday.

The operation comes a month after a Bangladeshi woman, forced into the flesh trade in the same area, made serious allegations against a police constable.

This marks the second such rescue drive in the red-light area within the last seven days. On 12 February, police rescued two Bangladeshi women and several minor girls from the brothels.

A 700-member police team, headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Krushikesh Rawale, raided the brothels Around 12:30am and checked for Bangladeshi women and minor girls forced into prostitution .

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “We will initiate the act of sealing the brothels or the buildings housing brothels where the Bangladeshi women were found staying illegally and forced into the flesh trade.”

He added that cases will be registered under the provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. They will soon initiate deportation process of these women.
