On the occasion of World Cancer Day (4 February), Community Bank Bangladesh PLC, in collaboration with Amra Nari, organised a cancer and health awareness seminar on Tuesday.
The programme was held at the bank’s head office with participation from female officials of the head office and different branches in Dhaka, according to a press release.
Distinguished medical experts conducted the session, including Md Khademul Bashar, assistant professor at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Mohakhali, Dhaka, and Bushra Noor Al Chowdhury, MBBS, MS (Surgical Oncology), assistant professor, Department of Surgery, National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH), Dhaka.
Speaking at the seminar, Md Khademul Bashar said, “Cancer is no longer merely a medical issue; it is a significant public health challenge. Early detection, regular health check-ups, and a healthy lifestyle can play a vital role in prevention. With timely and appropriate treatment, many cases of cancer can be cured.”
Bushra Noor Al Chowdhury emphasised “Timely identification of blood disorders and cancer-related complications can save lives. No symptom should be ignored. Necessary diagnostic tests and consultation with specialists are crucial. Awareness and regular screening remain our strongest defence.”
Representing Community Bank were Hasi Rani Bepari, EVP and head of CRM, and HM Mehedi Hasan, SAVP and manager (Learning & Development), Community Bank Training Academy.
Addressing the event, MM Zahidur Rahman Biplob, founder of Amra Nari, said the organisation is a non-political, non-profit social platform working for women’s empowerment, social welfare and humanitarian development.
He added that the seminar reflects Amra Nari’s continued efforts to promote health awareness and build a compassionate and informed society.
The seminar highlighted the importance of early detection and prevention of cancer, modern treatment technologies, timely diagnosis and lifestyle-related risk factors.
The organisers reaffirmed their commitment to continuing such awareness programmes in the future to promote public health and social responsibility.
