More than 14 lakh insolvent litigants have accessed legal services at the government’s expense through the National Legal Aid Services Organisation (NLASO).
According to a report recently published on the NLASO website, these essential services were provided between 2009 and March 2026.
The data highlights a significant reach across various demographics. During the reporting period, legal advice was provided to 266,997 women, 294,109 men, 2,407 children, and 69 third-gender individuals.
Additionally, legal assistance for court cases was extended to 227,285 women, 233,129 men, 2,224 children, and five individuals belonging to the third gender.
The report also detailed the impact of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), which supported 153,111 women, 170,340 men, and 70,832 children. Additionally, the organisation’s hotline service facilitated information for 10,041 women and 7,287 men.
The cumulative number of beneficiaries over this period reached 1,437,736 people. This total includes 657,334 women, 704,865 men, 75,463 children, and 74 third-gender individuals who received state-sponsored legal aid.
The NLASO operates under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. It is mandated to provide legal assistance to the public in accordance with the Legal Aid Act.
