A special open-air screening of the film Delupi was held at Korail Ershad Ground for residents of Dhaka’s Korail slum who were affected by the recent fire. The screening took place at 8:00 pm on Wednesday and was organised by the urban farmers’ civic group Nagar Abad, in collaboration with its associate group Poka. More than a thousand people attended the screening at Ershad Ground.
According to the film’s production house, Footprint Film Production, the initiative was driven by the spirit of solidarity portrayed in Delupi, which depicts collective resilience in the aftermath of flooding. The team said it was important to stand beside the people of Karail following the devastating fire.
Earlier, on December 2, in the immediate aftermath of the blaze, the Delupi team announced that the producer’s share of ticket sales from all screenings of the film across the country would be donated to support the welfare of those affected in Karail.
In a statement at the time, the team said the initiative was not intended to compensate for the community’s irreparable losses, but to express empathy and solidarity. “This is a way of letting them know that we stand with them and share their pain,” the statement read. “With the love and support of the people behind Delupi, we hope to overcome this disaster together
