A man was killed and 15 others injured in a clash between two BNP factions in Madhabpur village under Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah on Thursday over establishing supremacy in the area.

The deceased, Mohon Sheikh, 65, was a resident of the village.

According to local sources, tensions had been escalating for an extended period between supporters of BNP faction leaders Sher Ali Matabbar and Mashiur Rahman Matabbar, both influential figures in the area.

The rivalry reportedly centered on establishing control and influence within the locality.

The situation escalated on Thursday morning when members of the opposing groups became involved in a heated argument, said Humayun Kabir Molla, officer-in-charge of Shailkupa Police Station. The confrontation soon turned violent, with both sides attacking each other using sharp weapons.

During the clash, Mohon Sheikh was killed and 15 others sustained injuries. Several houses in the area were also vandalised.

The injured individuals were rushed to the district hospital for treatment. One critically injured person was later transferred to Kushtia Medical College Hospital for advanced care. Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent further unrest.
