Pakistan’s security forces have successfully neutralized 17 members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in an intelligence-led operation carried out in the country’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The operation took place on the night of September 26-27, 2025, in the Lakki Marwat district, a region that has long struggled with militant activity.
Meanwhile, during the army raid one Bangladeshi national died along with other TTP fighter. He was identified as Saad Muhajir, Pakistani Geo TV reported.
According to a statement from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the security forces targeted insurgents affiliated with the TTP, a group responsible for a series of deadly attacks in the region over the years. The military referred to the militants as “khwarij,” a term from Islamic history that refers to violent rebel factions, accusing them of being backed by Indian forces — a claim denied by both India and Afghanistan.
During the operation, security forces engaged the militants’ hideout, resulting in the deaths of 17 fighters. The military also reported recovering a significant amount of weaponry and ammunition from the militants, who were said to have been involved in a series of violent incidents targeting Pakistan’s law enforcement and civilians. The forces continue a “sanitization operation” in the area to track down any remaining insurgents or accomplices.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the military for its prompt and professional response, stating that the operation thwarted the militants’ plans. “This timely action has averted further bloodshed and strengthened our commitment to eliminating terrorism,” he said in a statement.
Lakki Marwat, though not directly on the Afghan border, lies within the reach of the porous frontier zone, often used by militants as a base of operations. This region has witnessed numerous attacks in the past, including a recent bombing in the neighboring Bannu area, where a suicide car bomb attack on a paramilitary base left several dead and wounded.
