Liberal Democratic Party President Col (retd) Oli Ahmed has been nominated as the presidential candidate from the 11‑party alliance led by Jamaat‑e‑Islami for the upcoming election.
His name was announced on Sunday afternoon following a meeting of the alliance at the residence of the Leader of the Opposition.
Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and chief whip of the opposition, and Mamunul Haque, ameer of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, were present at the meeting.
Earlier on Saturday evening, a meeting finalised the decision that Jamaat will participate in the presidential polls.
Shafiqur, also Jamaat ameer, presided over the meeting. Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar and members of the party’s executive council were also present.
