Offices, banks reopen after Eid holiday

After a seven-day holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, government offices, banks, and insurance institutions across Bangladesh reopen on Tuesday, marking the resumption of full-scale administrative and economic activity.

Office hours resumed from 9am, restoring the regular schedule after the extended closure.

Thousands of government employees and professionals have already begun returning to Dhaka from their hometowns. Major transport hubs including bus terminals, railway stations, and river ports have seen heavy passenger traffic over the past two days as people rushed back to the capital.

Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals for Muslims, was celebrated nationwide on 21 March with due solemnity and festive enthusiasm. To mark the occasion, the government declared a holiday from 17 to 23 March.

The newspaper industry also observed a five-day Eid break, announced by the Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (NOAB), from 19 to 23 March. That holiday period also concludes on Tuesday.

With the festive pause now over, the country is set to return to its regular rhythm of governance, commerce, and financial activity, as offices, institutions, and media resume operations at full scale.
