Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni said the swearing‑in of women members of parliament will further empower half of the country’s population.

Speaking to reporters, Moni noted that 49 of the 50 women members took oath, while one could not due to pending legal procedures. Following a favourable court ruling, she is expected to take oath soon, he informed.

On Sunday night, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad administered the oath to MPs elected to reserved women’s seats in the parliament’s oath chamber.

They will also oversee family card distribution and carry out responsibilities as directed by the prime minister to advance women’s empowerment.

Answering a question, Moni said women remain somewhat behind and require special measures to reach their goals. He stressed that women make up half of the country’s population, and bringing this vast segment forward and making them self‑reliant is the Prime Minister’s main goal.

He assured the nation that women will play a leading role in building a well‑organised and prosperous Bangladesh through collective effort.
