The physical condition of Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has shown signs of improvement, according to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Resident Surgeon Dr Mostak Ahmed.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Dr Mostak confirmed that Nur had suffered fractures in his nasal and jaw bones, along with eye injuries. Additionally, he experienced a brain hemorrhage, though it is gradually subsiding. “His condition is improving,” Dr Mostak confirmed.
He further mentioned that Nur’s sodium levels had been low, but this issue has now been resolved, and he is able to eat. “Currently, everything is stable,” said Dr Mostak, emphasising that treatment is ongoing under the guidance of a six-member medical board.
Meanwhile, the hospital’s Director, Brig Gen Md Asaduzzaman, stated that Nur’s health is steadily improving, and he is expected to return home within a week. A meeting of the medical board will take place on Sunday, during which a decision will be made regarding his potential transfer to the ICU.
Previously, on Friday (August 30), Nur and several other leaders of the Gono Odhikar Parishad were severely injured in clashes with the Jatiya Party at around 9pm. Law enforcement forces were reported to have used batons, resulting in serious injuries.
Nur was later taken to Islami Bank Hospital and then transferred to the ICU at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
