Gono Odhikar Parishad Senior Vice-President Faruk Hasan has been assigned the routine duties of party president Nurul Haque Nur, who is currently abroad for treatment.
The decision was confirmed in a press release signed by party Office Secretary Shakil Uzzaman on Friday night.
According to the release, the move was made following a meeting of the party’s Higher Council and in line with the party constitution. Faruk Hasan will now perform the routine responsibilities of president until Nur’s return.
On 29 August, a clash broke out in the capital’s Bijoynagar area between leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party (JaPa) and Gono Odhikar Parishad.
During the incident, law enforcers charged batons, leaving Nur, party General Secretary Rashed Khan, and around 50 others injured.
Nur, who sustained serious injuries, was first admitted to Islami Bank Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent treatment for 18 days before returning home last week.
On 22 September, he left for Singapore to receive advanced medical care.
