From opening to the lower order, Mehidy Hasan Miraz has batted in almost every position in ODIs for Bangladesh. With growing competition in the batting lineup, skipper Miraz now finds the number seven position most suitable for both himself and the team.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday ahead of the three-match ODI series against Pakistan, Miraz said, “I have realized where my batting is most effective for the team and can help produce results.”

Out of 85 innings, Miraz has batted 16 times at number seven, scoring 226 runs at an average of 14.12. However, he has been more successful at number eight, scoring 662 runs including one century and two fifties.

Miraz is thinking beyond statistics. He believes his experience batting down the order can benefit the team. “Since I have experience batting at the same position for around eight to nine years, usually at number eight, I have led the team in many matches alongside the bowlers and won several games. That is why I feel that, given my experience, batting at number seven would be very helpful for the team,” he said.

Miraz has also batted in the top order on several occasions. He scored his second ODI century opening the innings and has three more fifties at number four. However, his last 10 innings, mostly at number five, have not been very successful.

“Even though I have scored well in the top order, the team often did not win. That is why I believe number seven is a more suitable position for me and will greatly benefit the team,” Miraz added.
