National University (NU) conducted its first-year honours admission test for the 2025–2026 academic session on Saturday, with more than 4,53,148 candidates sitting for entry into 880 affiliated colleges across Bangladesh.
The one-hour MCQ-based test began at 11am at 138 centres nationwide and ended at 12:00 pm, marking one of the country’s largest centralised university admission exercises.
National University Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah visited Tongi Government College in Gazipur to inspect the examination process and expressed satisfaction with the overall environment.
Results will be published within a short time, followed by the start of the admission process, he said while responding to questions from journalists.
The Vice-Chancellor later monitored the examination across the country from a control room set up at the university’s ICT building, reflecting an increased reliance on central oversight for large-scale academic assessments.
The admission process covers 880 colleges, including 375 government institutions and 505 private colleges, underlining the scale of the National University’s network in higher education.
Of the 138 centres, 18 were located in Dhaka metropolitan area, 27 in Dhaka division, 13 in Barishal division, 23 in Chattogram division, 18 in Khulna division, 17 in Rajshahi division, 13 in Rangpur division and 9 in Sylhet division.
The control room hosted several senior academics and officials during the monitoring process. Among them were Dhaka University Department of Sociology Honorary Professor AI Mahbub Uddin Ahmed, Bangladesh Open University Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Central University Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Nurul Islam, Gazipur Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Professor GKM Mustafizur Rahman, and Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Latif.
Also present were Dhaka University Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Professor Md Selim Reza, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner, and Hazrat Shah Ali Mohila College Principal Rana Ferdous Ratna.
The scale of participation highlights sustained demand for public university-affiliated higher education, as authorities move to complete admissions quickly following the test.
