The government does not feel any pressure following the announcement by ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina that she intends to return to Bangladesh.
Prime Minister’s Policy and Strategy Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman said this while speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
“We are not feeling any pressure. There is no question of pressure here,” Zahed said, adding that the government’s policy position is to bring her (Sheikh Hasina) back.
He also said the people want to see Hasina tried, and the government also wants her trial. “We welcome her return, we want her trial,” the adviser remarked.
Hasina told Reuters in a recent interview that she would return to Bangladesh in December to surrender. Several media outlets carried her remarks.
Asked what steps the government is taking against media publishing her comments despite a court order, Zahed said no ban has been imposed by the government. “The ban was issued by the court,” he clarified.
He further said Hasina has no political future in Bangladesh.
