Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said just as no government is permanent in a democratic system, no post in the administration is permanently reserved for anyone.
He made these remarks on Monday while delivering a speech to senior police officials at the PM’s Office in Tejgaon, marking Police Week-2026.
Tarique added that neither people nor governments remain in power forever. This has been proven many times in the past, with examples existing in various countries across the world. Similarly, no post in public administration or the police administration is permanent.
He stated that the government intends to transform the police into a force that is truly people friendly. Describing the police administration as the mirror of the government, he urged officials to view incidents of corruption and terrorism not through political identities, but as the acts of individuals.
Tarique said if law enforcement agencies make proper efforts, the country will move a step closer towards building a prosperous, self-reliant, safe, and humanitarian Bangladesh.
Emphasising the need for police members to be multi-skilled and ready to work in anywhere, he called for no compromises to be made regarding professionalism.
PM added the government will implement the July Charter. Honesty, merit, and skill will be the core principles for recruitment, transfer, or promotion within the police force.
Concluding his speech, Tarique noted that how the public perceives or evaluates the government depends significantly on the role of the police. He urged the police to master humanitarian qualities.
The event was attended by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir, and other senior officials.
