BNP Standing Committee Member and Cox’s Bazar-1 candidate Salahuddin Ahmed has warned that Bangladesh will not allow the emergence of fascism or authoritarian rule again.
Speaking as the chief guest at a communal harmony rally organised by Hindu, Buddhist and Christian communities in the Bhramuhuri area of Chakaria municipality on Saturday evening, Salahuddin said public unity is the strongest barrier against fascism.
“We will not allow any new form of dictatorship or fascism in this country. People’s unity will be the greatest resistance against fascism,” he said.
Salahuddin said the dream of independence envisioned by the country’s freedom fighters has repeatedly been obstructed. “Unfortunately, that dream has been stalled many times. Democracy has been hindered and people’s voting rights have been taken away. We do not want to follow that path again,” he added.
He urged all communities to unite to build the Bangladesh envisioned by the martyrs of the mass uprising and freedom fighters. “We must build that dream together. Politics of division will not take us forward; only politics of unity will,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of communal harmony, Salahuddin said, “This country belongs to all of us. Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and Christians – Bangladesh is built on the sacrifices of all communities. We were born here, we will die here, and we must live together here.”
He also called for strengthening democracy, restoring voting rights and ensuring the rule of law. “To build the Bangladesh of the martyrs’ dream, democracy must be strengthened first,” he said.
Salahuddin said BNP believes in the principle of “religion for all, state for all.” He warned that those who try to exploit communal divisions for political gain will be rejected by the people.
The rally was attended by local leaders of the Hindu, Buddhist and Christian communities, along with BNP leaders and activists.
Speakers at the event pledged to preserve communal harmony and work towards building a democratic and equitable Bangladesh.
