A road accident on the Dhaka–Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj left nine people as dense fog reduced visibility. The crash caused a long traffic jam on the busy highway.
The accident occurred around 2am on Monday at the Samshapur flyover slope in Srinagar upazila. A goods-laden truck travelling from Cumilla to Bhanga in Faridpur lost control in the heavy fog and overturned. The vehicle was badly mangled in the crash, injuring nine people on board.
Local sources said the truck was returning to Bhanga after a fair in Cumilla. It was carrying decorative materials, pickles and other goods along with workers associated with the consignment.
After receiving the information, a unit of the Srinagar Fire Service rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Firefighters rescued the injured and took them to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex. Doctors later referred all of them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
All nine injured are residents of different areas of Bhanga upazila, officials said.
The accident disrupted traffic on the expressway, creating severe congestion. Authorities cleared the damaged truck and restored normal traffic movement after about one and a half hours.
