Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar has said the new pay scale is at the final stage and may be announced at any time.
He made the remarks while responding to journalists’ questions at the Secretariat on Sunday.
“For the past 11 years, there has been no new pay scale, leaving 18 lakh government officials and employees under pressure from inflation. Although difficult for the public, the living standards of government employees must be adjusted,” the principal secretary said.
He noted that the government’s main challenge now is the economy, and plans are being made to resolve the crisis through job creation and increased productivity.
He also pointed to the current gas, electricity and energy crisis, citing the war in the Middle East and the absence of alternative measures by the previous government. Efforts are underway to build a diversified supply chain from Russia, the Philippines, Indonesia and China, he added.
Mentioning that the terms of the Cabinet Secretary and the Public Administration Secretary end on Sunday, he said the names of their successors would be known within 24 hours.
He added that any reshuffle in the cabinet would be decided by the political leadership.
