The birth and death anniversaries of Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, commonly known as Begum Rokeya, a pioneer of Bengali Muslim women’s empowerment, fall on December 9. The day is officially observed as Begum Rokeya Day. To mark the occasion, and the presentation of the Begum Rokeya Padak 2025, the Women’s Affairs Directorate under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has produced a documentary titled ‘Ami Rokeya’. The production was carried out by Action Cut Entertainment.
The documentary will be broadcast on BTV, Bangladesh Betar and a number of private channels on Tuesday. Mamun, head of Action Cut Entertainment, said the team completed filming within a week. Rodela Tapur and Kusum Sikder appear in various roles.
The eight-minute documentary focuses on Begum Rokeya’s stance against child marriage and her lifelong advocacy for women’s education.
