The 2026 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has begun, but the tournament is still waiting for its official trophy to be unveiled. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that a newly designed, diamond-studded trophy is being shipped from Dubai and is expected to arrive shortly.
The BPL got under way with the match between Rajshahi Warriors and Sylhet Titans, yet the governing council was unable to present the trophy at the start of the competition. BCB vice-president Sakhawat Hossain explained that the board had initially arranged a trophy before the tournament, but it was later considered below standard. As a result, the decision was taken to place a fresh order.
The new trophy has been commissioned in Dubai at a cost of around Tk 30–35 lakh. Sakhawat said the delay was caused by repeated changes to the design, as the board wanted a trophy that truly reflected the stature of the country’s flagship T20 competition. He added that despite the limited time available, the BCB remained confident the final product would meet expectations.
Because the trophy was not ready, the opening ceremony went ahead without it. BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul formally inaugurated the tournament by releasing 25,000 balloons. While the ceremony was smaller than in previous editions, it still featured stage performances by popular artistes such as Tanjin Tisha and Fuad during the break between the day’s two matches.
Addressing the issue, Sakhawat said “The new trophy will reach us very soon. Time was short, and on top of that we chose to change the trophy again. If the earlier trophy had been acceptable, this question would not have arisen at all. We hope you will like it. It will be the best trophy you have seen so far.”
BCB media committee chairman Amjad Hossain added, “We have already placed the order for the trophy. It is diamond-studded. The cost of making the trophy is 25,000 US dollars. As Sakhawat bhai mentioned, there has been a slight delay in receiving it. It will arrive very soon. We hope everyone will like it once they see it.”
