The newly formed National Democratic Front (NDF), led by factions of the Jatiya Party (Japa) and the Jatiya Party (JP), on Tuesday announced its candidates for the forthcoming 13th National Parliamentary Elections.
The alliance has nominated 131 candidates to contest 119 constituencies across the country, marking its first major political move since its formation on 9 December.
The announcement was made at a press conference at Hotel Sheraton in Banani, Dhaka, where Jatiya Party executive chairman Mujibul Haque Chunnu formally unveiled the list.
According to the alliance, multiple candidates will contest in 11 constituencies, including Dhaka-10, Barishal-6, Dhaka-17, Chattogram-9, Sherpur-1, Shariatpur-1, Dhaka-18, Barguna-1, Barishal-4, Jhalokathi-2, and Tangail-8.
The NDF comprises 18 political parties, including factions led by Anisul Islam Mahmud and Anwar Hossain Manju.
Its alliance partners include the Anisul Islam-led Jatiya Party (Japa), Jatiya Party (JP), Janata Party Bangladesh, Trinamool BNP, Bangladesh Nationalist Movement, Bangladesh Cultural Liberation Alliance, Gano Front, Bangladesh Muslim League (Mohsin Rashid), National Islamic Alliance, Bangladesh Independent Party, Bangladesh Independence Party, Alliance Democratic Party, Bangladesh Democratic Movement, Democratic Party, National Cultural Alliance, JASAD (Shahjahan Siraj), United Democratic Party, and Gono Andolon.
This announcement signals the NDF’s active entry into national politics ahead of the highly anticipated elections.
