The National Citizen Party (NCP) has called for the swift implementation of the death sentence handed down against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, describing the verdict as a crucial step toward justice.
In a video statement, NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossen said that to ensure justice for genocide and crimes against humanity, there is no alternative but to implement the verdict without delay.
Claiming that the verdict proves Sheikh Hasina committed numerous atrocities during her tenure, he stated, “The responsibility for shooting people, using lethal weapons, and burning citizens alive has now been legally established in court.”
He added that delivering justice for these crimes is vital for the peace of the nation’s martyrs.
Akhter urged the government to execute the death sentence immediately, arguing that such punishment would serve as a warning to future leaders from engaging in similar acts.
He also called on the Indian government not to provide refuge to Hasina and to hand her over to the Bangladeshi judicial system.
According to Akhter Hossen, upholding the verdict would not only honour the victims but also set a global precedent in preventing state-led oppression and mass killings carried out under the pretext of human rights.
“The souls of our martyrs will only rest when this sentence is carried out,” Akhter Hossen added, appealing to citizens to trust the justice system and allow the judicial process to reach its conclusion.
