The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced its first phase of candidates for the upcoming local government elections, naming 100 individuals to contest for the positions of Upazila Chairman and Municipal Mayor.
The announcement was made during a press conference held on Sunday at the party’s central office in Banglamotor, the capital.
According to party officials, the list comprises 50 candidates for Upazila Parishad Chairmen and 50 candidates for Municipal Mayors.
In the Rangpur division, the NCP has nominated Md Habibur Rahman Habib for the position of Tentulia Upazila Chairman in Panchagarh district. Additionally, Shishir Asad has been nominated for Boda Upazila Chairman, while Masud Parvez will contest as the mayoral candidate for Debiganj Municipality.
For Thakurgaon district, Golam Mortuza Selim has been fielded for the Rani Shankail Upazila chairmanship.
In Dinajpur, Imran Chowdhury Nishat and Maulana M A Tafsir Hasan have been nominated for the Phulbari and Bochaganj Upazila chairmanships, respectively. The party also announced Shihab Hossain as the mayoral candidate for Phulbari Municipality, Md. Abdul Mannan for Ghoraghat Municipality, and Raihan Kabir for Hakimpur Municipality.
Other candidates in the northern region include Abu Sayed Lion for Jaldhaka Upazila in Nilphamari, and Kamrul Islam for Nilphamari Sadar Upazila. For the position of Mayor in Kurigram Sadar Municipality, the party has nominated Md Masum Mia. Furthermore, Shah Sultan Nasir Uddin Ahmed will contest for Kaliganj Upazila in Lalmonirhat, Krishna Chandra Barman for Rangpur Sadar Upazila, and Khadimul Islam for Sadullapur Upazila in Gaibandha.
In Chattogram, the NCP has announced Shafiqul Islam Shafiq as its candidate for Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila Chairman and Mohammad Hossain for Ukhiya Upazila Chairman. Nominations for the chairmanships of Chandpur Sadar and Matlab North Upazilas have been granted to Rashid and Idris, respectively.
Additionally, the press conference revealed that Raju Sarkar will contest for the post of Mayor in Homna Municipality of Cumilla, while Aminul Haque will represent the party as the candidate for the Bijoynagar Upazila chairmanship in Brahmanbaria.
