The interim government is prioritising political parties over public interest, alleged National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary.
He made the allegation on Friday at a press conference at the party’s central office in Banglamotor, Dhaka, where he presented the NCP’s official response to the government’s July Charter implementation order.
Patwary criticised the government for showing “sympathy without taking responsibility,” claiming the implementation order distributes benefits “spoon by spoon” among political groups while leaving citizens with nothing.
He further remarked that the government is “paving the way for another Hasina,” adding that the July Charter was “defiled” by securing the President’s signature.
He stated that although the charter now carries legal validity, it lacks moral legitimacy.
“Through this charter, the government has pleased political parties but overlooked the people,” he said.
Patwary also alleged that “the charter was shaped according to the wishes of BNP and Jamaat” and cautioned the two parties against using the reform process to build electoral vote banks.
Despite highlighting several ambiguities in the implementation process, he said the NCP views the government’s initiative as largely positive.
Ahead of the upcoming national election, Patwary announced that the NCP has sold 1,011 nomination forms.
