Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has pointed out that Bangladesh cannot move forward if women, who comprise fifty per cent of the country’s population, are left out of the development process.
He made the remark on Friday while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a reunion of former cadets at Joypurhat Girls Cadet College.
Speaking as the chief guest, the army chief emphasised the importance of integrity, stating, “We must be good people and work with principles and ethics. Our dream is to create many cadets.
“We want women’s leadership, and we also want women’s empowerment.”
He stressed the necessity of developing women’s skills, adding, “We must remember that fifty per cent of the country’s population are women. Thinking about the country’s development by excluding them would be wrong.
“Therefore, women must be developed efficiently.”
Addressing the new cadets, he urged them to serve the nation like their predecessors.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman wished success and continued prosperity for the current and former cadets participating in the parade, and called upon them to dedicate themselves to serving the nation.
He inaugurated the Association of Joypurhat Ex-Cadets Reunion event and took the salute at the reunion parade.
College Principal Ariful Haque and AJEC President Mousumi Shikha also spoke at the event. Joypurhat Deputy Commissioner Afroza Akter Chowdhury, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Abdul Wahab and teachers were present among many others.
