Students of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) have sought the intervention of BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi to reinstate former vice-chancellor Professor Abu Sayed Muhammad Sayeem.
A student delegation handed over a memorandum to Rizvi at the guesthouse of Chattogram Club around 1pm on Thursday.
During the meeting, the students outlined the background of their ongoing movement, the removal of the former vice-chancellor and the resulting deadlock at the university. They also explained their demands for restoring normal academic and administrative activities.
After receiving the memorandum, Rizvi praised the students for conducting their movement peacefully and maintaining discipline without resorting to disorder.
He also assured them that he would take appropriate steps regarding the matter after returning to Dhaka.
Nafis Hasan Nafi, a fourth-year student of the Department of Civil Engineering, said the students hoped the BNP leader’s intervention would help persuade the government to consider their demands and restore normal activities at the university as soon as possible.
Earlier, the students had also submitted memorandums to Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Public Administration Md Ismail Zabiullah and Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia as part of their ongoing campaign for the former vice-chancellor’s reinstatement.
