In a major administrative move, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has transferred and reassigned 555 Assistant Revenue Officers in a single order. The decision was made public on Tuesday through two separate notifications signed by Tanvir Ahmed, Second Secretary of Customs and VAT Administration-3.
According to the notifications, 459 officers were transferred in one order, while another 96 were reshuffled under a separate directive. The NBR stated that the move has been taken “in the public interest” and the orders have come into immediate effect.
This comes a day after the NBR issued a similar transfer order involving 182 Assistant Revenue Officers on Monday.
Sources within the NBR confirmed that several officials associated with recent protests against the move to split the revenue board have also been temporarily suspended.
A wave of reshuffles has been ongoing across various departments of the NBR in recent weeks.
Commenting on the development, NBR Member GM Abul Kalam Kaikobad told the Times of Bangladesh, “The reshuffles are being conducted in accordance with established rules. Ensuring uninterrupted revenue collection has remained our top priority in the process.”
The large-scale transfer has sparked discussions across the revenue department, with many linking it to the recent unrest within the institution.
