The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has selected 72,341 income tax returns for audit in the second phase for the 2023–24 tax year using a fully automated system aimed at enhancing transparency and boosting revenue collection.
The selection was carried out under a risk-based audit criterion, eliminating any scope for manual intervention, the authority said.
In the first phase conducted in July, a total of 15,494 cases were chosen for audit through a random selection process.
Under the system, predefined criteria were applied to select taxpayers, with each tax circle auditing a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 200 cases.
The automated approach ensures a more objective and accountable audit selection process, the NBR said.
The list of selected taxpayer identification numbers (TINs) has been published on the NBR website, allowing taxpayers to verify their status.
Officials said the move will strengthen transparency and impartiality in audit selection and support revenue targets.
Experts said such technology-driven initiatives mark a step towards modernising tax administration in Bangladesh.
