Prof Dr Md Nazmul Hossain, a professor in the Department of Marketing at the University of Dhaka, joined the National University (NU) as its new treasurer on Tuesday following his appointment with the approval of the President and Chancellor.
Hossain formally assumed office on 28 July after meeting Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr A S M Amanullah at the university’s main campus in Gazipur, the National University said in a press release. The vice-chancellor welcomed him with flowers.
Registrar Molla Mahfuz Al-Hossain, directors of different university offices and other senior officials attended the occasion.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education issued the notification appointing Hossain on 27 July.
His appointment was made with the approval of the President and Chancellor under Sections 14(1) and 14(2) of the National University Act, 1992.
Hossain completed his BBA and master’s degrees in marketing at the University of Dhaka before earning a PhD in Information Science for Business from Kyushu University in Japan.
His principal research interests include big data, machine learning, artificial intelligence in business, consumer behaviour and marketing.
About 30 of his research papers and two book chapters have been published in prominent national and international journals.
Hossain also founded the Dhaka University Marketing Club, or DUMC, to strengthen links between the corporate and academic sectors. He currently serves as the club’s founding moderator.
As part of his advanced academic work, he has attended seminars and international conferences in Bangladesh, Austria, Germany, Singapore, Poland, Malaysia, China, Japan, Mexico and the United States.
