Nari Samhati paid tribute at Rokeya Memorial at Ruqayyah Hall of Dhaka University on the occasion of Begum Rokeya Day on Tuesday.
The organisation’s President Shyamoli Shil and General Secretary Aparajita Chanda along with central leaders were present during the commemoration, according to a press release.
While speaking at the event, she said that even today the organisation continues its struggle for a transformative political shift. “From households to parliament, from the streets to centres of power, equal participation of women must be ensured.”
She added that the organisation’s demand for electing women through direct voting while keeping 100 seats reserved will remain an ongoing movement until fulfilled.
As part of the day’s observance, the central committee of Nari Samhati entered Ruqayyah Hall in a procession before offering floral tributes at the memorial. Following the tribute, Nari Samhati held a brief gathering.
Shyamoli Shil also said that today marks both the birth and death anniversary of Begum Rokeya.
Remembering the day, the organisation paid respect by placing flowers at the Rokeya Memorial in Dhaka University’s Ruqayyah Hall.
