Nahid Islam, the 10-party alliance candidate for the Dhaka-11 constituency, has alleged that an atmosphere of fear is being deliberately created for voters. He further accused rival candidates of violating the electoral code of conduct under the guise of campaigning.
Nahid, who serves as the convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), is contesting the seat – comprising Rampura, Badda, and Vatara – under the NCP’s electoral symbol, the “Shapla Koli.”
Speaking to journalists on Saturday in the Vatara area before commencing his second day of mass contact, Nahid claimed that panic is being spread systematically across the electoral field.
He specifically noted that banners belonging to 10-party alliance candidates are being torn down as part of efforts to intimidate the electorate.
Raising further concerns regarding electoral integrity, Nahid alleged that various tactics are being employed to buy votes, including the promise of “Family Cards.” However, he maintained that the public is not swayed by such “false propaganda and enticements.”
Regarding the assurance of a fair election on 12 February, Nahid asserted that every necessary measure would be taken to protect the process. He stated that citizens would personally guard the polling centres to ensure that no one could manipulate the results.
The “Shapla Koli” candidate concluded by saying that active voter participation on election day would be the primary defence against irregularities, ensuring that the public mandate remains protected.
