Mushfiqur Rahim marked a historic milestone for Bangladesh cricket by playing his 100th Test in the second match of the series against Ireland at Mirpur. The experienced wicketkeeper-batsman, long regarded as a symbol of reliability, celebrated the occasion with a memorable century, scoring 106 runs off 214 balls, including five sixes.

The milestone drew messages of admiration from fans both at home and abroad. One heartfelt video message came from England-based Bangladeshi footballer Hamza Choudhury, who congratulated Mushfiq on reaching his 100th Test. In the video, Hamza said, “Assalamu Alaikum Mushfiq Bhai, you are a great legend of our country. We are proud of you. Congratulations on your 100th Test. InshaAllah, tomorrow will be your best.” Mushfiq was moved by the gesture, telling reporters that he was initially surprised and later watched the message on his manager’s phone. He said he hoped to thank Hamza in person when the opportunity arose.

Mushfiq’s century in his 100th Test came on the second morning of the Mirpur match. Having ended the first day unbeaten on 99, he reached three figures in the second over. Although he was dismissed shortly after, caught by Andrew McBryan off Matthew Humphries’ delivery, his innings helped Bangladesh post 476 runs in the first innings. The team remained in a commanding position by the close of play, with Ireland struggling at 98 for five and still needing 179 runs to avoid the follow-on.

The milestone was also deeply personal for Mushfiq, who dedicated his century to his grandparents. He explained, “They were my biggest fans. Even when they were unwell before passing away, they said they wanted to live a few more days just to watch me play. Very few grandchildren are blessed with such circumstances. I want to dedicate this century to my grandparents, as their blessings have helped me reach this far.”

Reflecting on his career, Mushfiq acknowledged the sacrifices behind his long-standing success. He credited his wife with creating a peaceful home environment that allowed him to practice extensively, saying, “I practise more than others, spending hours in the gym, on the field, or in the nets. Without peace at home, none of this would have been possible. My wife has managed our family while I could focus entirely on cricket. I am forever grateful to her.”
