Jhenaidah-2 MP and district Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Ali Azam Md Abu Bakar has declared his constituency free from extortion and corruption.
He made the announcement while speaking to journalists during a cleanliness drive at the 25-bed Children’s Hospital premises in Jhenaidah at 11am on Sunday.
“No extortion will be allowed in the transport sector in Jhenaidah-2, and corruption syndicates in all government institutions will be dismantled,” he said.
During the drive, he visited the specialised 25-bed Children’s Hospital and the Eye Hospital in Jhenaidah, inquiring about patients, doctors, officers and staff.
He later conducted another cleanliness drive at the Eye Hospital near the bus terminal, where he also spoke with doctors, nurses, officials, employees, patients and their relatives.
District Civil Surgeon Dr Md Kamruzzaman, Children’s Hospital Acting Director Dr Ali Hasan Farid Jamill and Sadar Upazila Jamaat Assistant Secretary Alamgir Hossain were present, along with doctors, nurses and staff.
Ali Azam Md Abu Bakar said the 25-bed Children’s Hospital was constructed during the 2001-06 BNP-Jamaat alliance government.
He said the hospital remained neglected during the Awami League tenure and urged the authorities concerned to increase bed capacity and ensure overall development.
He said he would give top priority to curbing extortion, corruption, drugs and other crimes in Jhenaidah-2.
The newly elected MP later distributed modern dustbins and cleaning materials at the Children’s Hospital.
