The Police Headquarters on Tuesday announced that a total of 48,134 police personnel so far completed their training over the upcoming national election.
The primary goal of the training is to build a skilled, disciplined, and professional police force capable of performing election duties responsibly. Earlier a “training of trainers” course on the programme was held from 31 August to 2 September, said a press release.
Around 150,000 police members are expected to be deployed across the country during the 13th parliamentary election. Their activities will be closely monitored at both the national and international levels, the release adds.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has issued special directives to all unit chiefs for close supervision of the ongoing election training. The Police Headquarters is continuously monitoring the programme to ensure its effectiveness.
As part of the oversight process, the IGP visited Rajshahi and Bogura on Sunday to inspect field-level training activities. During his visit, he exchanged views with participating police officers and provided necessary guidance.
All necessary measures have been taken to ensure the election is held in a free, fair, neutral, and festive environment.
The training programme will continue until mid-January. Notably, this is the first time that such a training initiative has been organised for police personnel ahead of the polls.
