International Master Monon Reza Neer of the Bangladesh Navy claimed the title at the FIDE Rating Chess Championship with a strong overall performance.
Neer finished the event with seven and a half points from nine games. Mohammad Fahad Rahman and Md Sajidul Haque also scored the same points. The champion was decided on tie break. Neer topped the list with a Cut One Buchholz score of 51. Fahad Rahman finished second with 50, while Sajidul Haque placed third with 45.
Five players ended the event with seven points each. FIDE Master Saklain Mostafa Sajid of Titas Club finished fourth. FIDE Master Subrata Biswas of Dhaka University took fifth place. Bangladesh Navy International Master Md Minhaj Uddin finished sixth. International Master Abu Sufian Shakil of Bangladesh Police Chess Club placed seventh. Ahnaf Rashid Chowdhury secured eighth place.
Eight players scored six and a half points. Bangladesh Navy FIDE Master Mohammad Javed finished ninth. FIDE Master Syed Mahfuzur Rahman of Manha’s Castle placed tenth. Muhtadi Tajwar Nashid of Janata Bank Officers Welfare Society finished eleventh. Khelaghar Chess Sangha’s Rayan Rashid Mugdho took twelfth place. Joyar Haque Prodhan of the same club finished thirteenth. All of them won prize money.
Special prizes went to several players. Woman FIDE Master Warsia Khushbu won a rating category award. Miraj Uddin Ahmed and Kamruzzaman Mamun also received rating prizes. Oitijjo Barua won the Under 14 award. Abrar Riazul Ahnaf Mohammad claimed the Under 10 prize. Woman FIDE Master Noshin Anjum won the women’s prize. FIDE Master Sheikh Nasir Ahmed secured the Over 50 award.
The tournament followed a nine round Swiss league format. A total of 179 chess players took part in the competition.
