Alliance Française de Dhaka will host The Inner Certitude, the first solo exhibition by Bangladeshi artist Mohiuddin Ahmed, from 10 to 15 July at La Galerie. The exhibition will open at 6pm on Friday, with Professor Emeritus of the University of Dhaka, Rafiqun Nabi, inaugurating the event.

The exhibition marks a significant milestone in Mohiuddin Ahmed’s artistic career and brings together a carefully selected collection of works created over the past several years.

Through a distinctive visual language that combines realism, symbolism and surrealism, the exhibition explores the relationship between the visible world and the inner landscapes of memory, imagination and human experience.

Working primarily with pen and pencil, alongside acrylic and watercolour, the artist demonstrates meticulous craftsmanship and technical discipline. Thousands of hand-rendered dots, delicate linear structures, geometric forms and dramatic contrasts of light and shadow come together to create intricate compositions that reward close observation. Each work reflects years of dedicated artistic practice and an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship.

Rather than presenting reality as it appears, Mohiuddin Ahmed reimagines familiar forms through symbolic narratives. Cities emerge within elephants, enigmatic faces appear inside a globe, and everyday objects transform into expansive visual metaphors. These compositions encourage multiple interpretations while inviting viewers to reflect on memory, resilience, desire, identity and the subconscious through their own experiences.

At the heart of The Inner Certitude is the belief that imagination is not an escape from reality but a way of understanding it more deeply. Through poetic imagery and carefully constructed compositions, the artist creates a dialogue between the external world and the human psyche, revealing how creativity can illuminate emotions and ideas that often remain beyond words.

The exhibition will remain open to visitors from 10 to 15 July, daily from 3pm to 9pm, at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka, located at 26 Mirpur Road, Dhanmondi. It invites art enthusiasts and visitors to experience a body of work that celebrates the transformative power of imagination through a uniquely personal visual language.
