A Dhaka court has rescheduled the submission of the investigation report regarding the Mohammadpur mother-daughter murder case to 6 April.
The report was originally due for submission on Thursday; however, the investigation officer, SI Sahidul Osman Masum of Mohammadpur Police Station, was unable to produce it.
Consequently, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam fixed the new date for the submission. SI Mijanur Rahman of the Prosecution Department confirmed the matter.
The case was filed on 8 December by AJM Azizul Islam, the husband of the deceased Laila Firoz.
Islam, a physics teacher at Sunbeams School in Uttara, had been living in the Mohammadpur residence with his wife and their only daughter for approximately 13 years. The family’s ancestral home is located in Natore.
According to the case details, Islam left home for school at 7am on December 8. He returned early, at approximately 11am, as examinations were being conducted at his school, only to discover the bodies of his wife and daughter. Neighbours alerted the police after hearing his cries.
CCTV footage analysed by the police revealed that a woman, identified as 20-year-old Ayesha, entered the house at 7:51am wearing a burqa. She was later seen leaving the residence at 9:36am wearing a school uniform belonging to the victim, Nafisa, a ninth-grade student.
The domestic worker, Ayesha Akter, and her husband, Rabbi, have since provided confessional statements in court admitting their involvement in the double homicide.
