Mohammad Tarikul Haque, chief engineer of Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC), said the outage occurred due to technical complications caused by the fire at the Moghbazar substation.

“The fire at the Moghbazar substation created technical problems, which is why restoring electricity is taking time. We are working to bring power back to different areas in phases,” he told TIMES of Bangladesh.

He said all affected consumers were expected to receive electricity services again by 10pm.
